Beginner's Guide

About the Game

Diamond Isle is a role-playing game that is set on a fictitious island in the Caribbean called Santuario Island. You are a "character" on this island and choose how you wish to present yourself. You may be a hard working miner who sweats away all day long, a visiting tourist wishing to relax and enjoy the sites, an invader planning on taking over the island, or just a regular island local getting by day to day. The choice is yours!
Creating a Character
When first logging into Diamond Isle, you will be requested to create a character, everything from name, body type, eye color, hair style, gender and clothing. This is an automated process and is very easily completed within a minute or two. When thinking of a name, try to think of one that will fit into a modern day island setting. You will also notice your Stats. These are not important at the moment, and are discussed below, and they will change constantly over your character's life time.
In Character(IC) and Out of Character(OOC)
Diamond Isle is a role-playing game where you are someone on an island. While playing, you should remember to be your character and not your "real" self. Talking about things on the island, local attractions, island weather are some of the things that you would talk about. You would not talk about your computer lagging, your "real" name, where "you" are from. Those are considered "OOC". Talking that way is disturbing to characters who are staying "IC". If you wish to speak to someone "OOC", use the WHISPER command or go to a designated spot for "OOC" discussion, like the Reality Community Center.
Communicating and Moving Around
You will encounter several other players and NPCs in your visits to the island and one thing you must know how to do is talk. You can engage in conversation using the ' or SAY command, followed by your message. You can also use SAYTO First Name Last Name to speak directly to someone, or ASK/ASKTO. The other aspect, moving around, can be handled in many ways. You will see "Obvious paths:" on your screen, telling you which directions you can travel. Sometimes not all of the paths are "obvious". There may be closed doors, or buildings you can GO into. You can move using commands such as n/north, s/south, etc. Or you may be able to GO/ENTER building/shop. Sometimes you may find DOORS you can OPEN. You may have to OPEN door/Open north.
